Ram Gopal Varma’s politically controversial film Lakshmi’s NTR is based on N.T. Rama Rao. It focuses on the late actor’s life and political journey. Even before hitting the theatres, the film topped the headlines (political reasons) and there were many who opposed for the release of the film. In fact, except for Andhra Pradesh, this film has been released across the country. As per reports, two individuals have filed a petition against the release of the film in Andhra Pradesh and just a day before the release date which is today, the Andhra Pradesh high court issued stay order. But the audiences and critics who have managed to watch the film, have said that this much hyped movie directed by RGV is a flop. Yes, from the critics’ end the film has opened to negative response. Let’s take a look at some of the reviews below for Lakshmi’s NTR. Andhra Pradesh HC Stays Release of Ram Gopal Varma’s Politically Controversial Film Lakshmi’s NTR – Read RGV’s Tweet.
Greatandhra.com – 2 stars
Ram Gopal Varma has showcased NTR’s life in realistic way. But the slow narration is major drawback. It needs lot of patience to watch the sluggish pace of bonding between NTR and Lakshmi Parvathi. Also the actors chosen for NTR’s family members are more like actors in a spoof movie. Some important dialogues are muted by Censor Board.
Mirchi 9 – 1.5 stars
The movie would have been appealing if RGV tries to be equidistant from Lakshmi Parvathi and Chandrababu Naidu. By taking her side, RGV deviated from history and placed himself as a tool for the Political Propaganda of the Opposition. By bringing a disastrous artist like Vijay Kumar to play NTR and mocking with some dance moves and forced dialogues, he did not even show respect on NTR in the so-called NTR’s Story.
The Hans India – 2.75 stars
Ram Gopal Varma has prepared an exciting script narrating the life of NTR after the entry of Lakshmi Parvathy. He has succeeded in touching most of the controversial elements in NTR's life. The way he narrated the story is perfect and especially in the second half, he has handled the emotions well. The first half is a bit boring as it is filled with conversations between Aged NTR and Lakshmi Parvati and the story runs very slow. But, the pace will get increased in the second half. Notably, the 'Vennupotu' episodes will keep the audience engaged. But again, the last 30 minutes of the film is boring.
Ram Gopal Varma has given some great films in the past to cinephiles. Be it a political thriller, horror or crime-based drama or a rom-com, RGV has given a variety of films. But looks like what he wanted to convey with Lakshmi’s NTR, it has not appealed the critics. Let’s wait and watch how the film runs in the coming days. Stay tuned for further updates.
