Ram Gopal Varma and the producer of Lakshmi's NTR Rakesh Reddy were detained at the Vijayawada Airport by AP police officials.
Ram Gopal Varma who is also referred as RGV directed the Telugu film, Lakshmi's NTR. His controversial film based on the life and political journey of N. T. Rama Rao, has become the hot topic in the cine world for numerous reasons. The filmmaker is trying his level best to get the film screened in various parts of the country but due to political pressures on the Election Commission and Central Board of Film Certification, the release of the film has been banned in many parts. RGV had planned to hold a press conference in the city but the filmmaker was stopped by the Andhra Pradesh police officials at the Vijayawada airport. A video of Ram Gopal Varma been escorted by the police officials has taken the internet by storm. In fact the filmmaker even shared a video of the same on his Twitter handle and captioned it, “Just see the number of police escorting me out of Vijaywada as if I am the biggest criminal ever and my only crime is telling all the backstabbing truths behind #LakshmisNTR”. In another tweet the director mentioned, “I AM DEMANDING ANSWERS FOR 16 QUESTIONS FROM @ncbn AND THE VIJAYAWADA POLICE ..IF I DO NOT GET ANSWERS TO MY 16 QUESTIONS WITHIN 16 HOURS I WILL GO TO COURT! ..Check this link for the 16 questions”. RGV planned to release Lakshmi's NTR on May 1 in 80 theatres in Andhra Pradesh. He was heading to the city along with the producer of Lakshmi's NTR, Rakesh Reddy, when the police detained them. According to reports, RGV and the producer argued with the police officials who tried to stop them at the airport. Ram Gopal Varma announced about it by tweeting, “Sorry to inform that the press meet at 4 pm is cancelled because the police stopped us and have barred my entry into Vijayawada and forcibly sending me back to Hyderabad. RGV also tweeted, “I am in police custody now for the only crime of trying to tell truth. There is no democracy in Andhra Pradesh.
