A fire erupted in a six-floor building densely populated with migrant workers in the Mangaf area of Kuwait City on June 12. The incident occurred while many workers were asleep, prompting some residents to leap from the building in a desperate bid for survival, as reported by Kuwaiti newspaper al-Qabas, citing witnesses. Following the tragic incident, Kamal Haasan has reacted strongly to the loss of Indian nationals, appealing to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for immediate support. Expressing deep concern over the fatalities, the veteran actor emphasised the urgent need for assistance and intervention to aid the affected families and manage the aftermath of the disaster. The Indian 2 actor, who called the incident as ‘shocking and painful’, expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families.

In a statement, the External Affairs Ministry said: “In an unfortunate and tragic fire incident in a Labour housing facility in Mangaf area of Kuwait, around 40 Indians are understood to have died and over 50 injured. The Embassy is ascertaining the full details from the concerned Kuwaiti authorities and the company. We offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved families.” Emir of Kuwait, Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, has directed investigations to ascertain the cause of the fire and ensure accountability for those responsible.
