Kishkindha Kaandam, one of the four Malayalam movies released during Onam 2024, had taken off to a slow start at the box office on its first day. However, thanks to extremely positive reviews and word-of-mouth, Kishkindha Kaandam has gained very good traction in the days ahead as it slowly trudges to hit status. The most well-received movie of the Onam releases, Kishkindha Kaandam, is also getting good attention beyond the state of Kerala and even getting good business at the global box office. ‘KishKindha Kaandam’ Movie Review: Asif Ali and Vijayaraghavan’s Brilliant Performances and a Layered Mystery Make for a Spectacular Combo!

Kishkindha Kaandam is directed by Dinjith Ayyathan based on a screenplay written by Bahul Ramesh. Asif Ali, Vijayaraghavan and Aparna Balamurali play the three principal characters in the movie, with particular praise received for their spectacular performances. Many are also in love with the movie's layered screenplay that leads to a revelation-packed, heartbreaking conclusion thanks to its plot elements of mystery and psychological drama.

If you are in love with Kishkindha Kaandam, here are five other Malayalam movies that we would recommend you to watch if you haven't done so already, and where you can watch them online. We don't want to add the reason why these films are a perfect companion viewing for Kishkindha Kaandam for SPOILER reasons; if you have seen the Asif Ali-starrer, you would know why.

Drishyam

The mystery of Kishkindha Kaandam has loose parallels to Jeethu Joseph's cult thriller starring Mohanlal in the lead. One of the best mystery thriller movies made in Malayalam cinema, Drishyam was also a huge hit at the box office and lent itself to successful remakes in other languages. Drishyam is streaming on Disney+ Hotstar and YouTube.

Drishyam 2

We thought of pegging the sequel with the original but then thought Drishyam 2 deserves a separate space purely for the reason that it was, in fact, very good despite coming out with a burden of expectations. Continuing the suspenseful story of how Georgekutty can try hiding where he dumped the body, the 2021 film might start off uneven but gets into splendid form as it moves on with a splendid, twisty third act. Drishyam 2 is streaming on Prime Video. Drishyam 2 Movie Review: Mohanlal’s Sequel to His Blockbuster Family Thriller Is Loaded With Pulpy Surprises.

Aarkkariyam

While watching Kishkindha Kaandam, I was reminded of another mystery drama that also centred around three main characters with similar interpersonal dynamics. Sanu John Varghese's Aarkkariyam is an underrated movie that starred Parvathy, Sharaf U Dheen and a brilliant Biju Menon in the cast. Shot during the COVID times and weaving the lockdown as an integral part of its plot, the movie may not be living completely up to its potential, but it is still worth a watch. Aarkkariyam is streaming on Prime Video. Aarkkariyam Movie Review: Biju Menon Is Excellent in This Slow-Burn Drama, Also Starring Parvathy and Sharaf U Dheen.

Ela Veezha Poonchira

Like many movies on this list, it is better to go into Shahi Kabir's Ela Veezha Poonchira blindly. Like Kishkindha Kaandam, it is a slow-burn psychological drama that rewards your patience with a shocking third act. The movie, which stars Soubin Shahir and Sudhi Koppa, wasn't a big hit at the box office but found a better reception after it premiered on Prime Video.

Purusha Pretham

A black comedy slash investigative thriller, Purusha Pretham is a fabulous follow-up to Krishand's brilliant satirical sci-fi mockumentary, Aavasavyuham. Starring Alexander Prasanth and Darshana Rajendran, Purusha Pretham is a police drama that follows the discovery of an unidentified corpse and how it affects the investigating officer. Purusha Pretham is streaming on SonyLIV.
