Anurag Kashyap's Gangs of Wasseypur is inspiring Indian film-makers to make realistic gangster sagas that spawn over decades. We had Dulquer Salmaan in Kammatipaadam that came out in Malayalam cinema a couple of years back, while Dhanush was seen in a similar genre earlier this year in Tamil's Vada Chennai. Not to forget, Ram Gopal Varma's take on this genre with Rakta Charitra. If you are not aware of this, KGF stands for Kolar Gold Fields and it deals with the rising mafia around the mines during the '70s. KGF (this is supposedly Chapter I) will follow the protagonist to rise up the ranks and being a one-man-army as he shuffles from being a hero to a villain and ultimately, become a monster, as one character says. KGF is directed by Prashanth Neel and also stars Srinidhi, Achyuth Kumar, Vasishta N Simha and B Suresha. The movie is releasing in five languages - Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam.

KGF was in the news for releasing on December 21, clashing with Shah Rukh Khan's Zero. As Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment is producing the film, they are making sure that KGF gets a good amount of screens in the northern territories too.
