Kannada film KGF Chapter I, which has been dubbed in Hindi, is performing brilliantly at the ticket windows. Starring Yash and Srinidhi in the lead, the action drama directed by Prashanth Neel released last Friday on December 21 and got off to a decent start despite receiving a lukewarm response from the critics. On its first day, the Hindi version of KGF raked in Rs 2.10 crore and then the film went on to do really well over its first weekend as it minted Rs 9.20 crore. KGF, which is backed Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment, also passed the crucial Monday test with flying colours. KGF Box Office Collection: Yash and Srinidhi Shetty's Film Grosses Rs 80 Crore Worldwide.
The Yash starrer, on its first Monday, earned Rs 2.90 crore and set the momentum for the big Christmas day. As expected, the film took full advantage of the holiday on Tuesday and performed exceptionally well as it clocked in Rs 4.35 crore on day 5, bringing its total collection to Rs 16.45 crore.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter a while back and revealed the updated figures. He wrote, '#KGF continues its upward trend... Day 5 [#Christmas] is bigger than Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4, which is a rarity... Fri 2.10 cr, Sat 3 cr, Sun 4.10 cr, Mon 2.90 cr, Tue 4.35 cr. Total: ₹ 16.45 cr. India biz. Note: HINDI version.'
Though KGF released on the same day as Shah Rukh Khan's Zero, so far the film hasn't faced stiff competition from Khan's latest outing. However, things could change drastically as Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan's action drama Simmba is slated to release this Friday, December 28. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film is expected to get cash registers ringing from day 1. But whether it succeeds or not, we'll get to know pretty soon.
