Incessant rains have played havoc in Kerala completely disrupting the state's functioning. The floods have destroyed 2857 houses and damaged 3393 hectares of crop. The death toll has risen to 94 and left 41 injured. While rescue and relief operations are in full swing, heavy rains that continue to drench the city are making things further difficult. Among those affected also include popular Malayalam actors with their houses being flooded. Pictures of Prithviraj Sukumaran's house being flooded shows are being widely shared on social networking sites.
A photo of his mother and actor Mallika Sukumaran being rescued in a large vessel is beyond shocking. The pictures show the mother nature's fury has equally affected everyone in the state. The photos show the actor's half submerged house with furniture including sofas and tables in water. Water has submerged the front porch of the area of the house. Mallika Sukumaran being rescued:
Meanwhile, Prithviraj's brother and actor Indrajith Sukumaran and fashion designer wife Poornima Indrajith along with daughters Prarthana Sukumaran and Nakshatra Sukumaran have been actively volunteering with NGO, Anbodu Kochi to mobilise relief materials for those affected.
Earlier this week, actor Joju George had shared pictures and videos of his flooded house after which the family shifted to a safer location.
Several actors have been donated money for rescue and relief. Actor Mammootty and son Dulquer Salmaan donated Rs 25 lakh for the relief operations. The Tamil film fraternity has also contributed to the rescue missions. Kamal Haasan also donated Rs 25 lakh to Kerala's CM Distress Relief Fund.
The Centre which launched a massive rescue operation in Kerala. Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are all working to save people trapped in different conditions.
The Indian navy airlifted people in Trichur, Aluva and Muvattupuzha on Thursday. Dramatic videos going viral on social media shows people being rescued from atop flooded homes. Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed the Defence Ministry rushed to rush in fresh teams of the three wings of the military for relief and rescue operations in the state. Over 1.5 lakh homeless and displaced people are taking shelter in relief camps.
