Man, Malayalam cinema is upping its scope and level of films are being made in the industry. Buoyed by the Rs 100 crore worldwide success of Mohanlal's Pulimurugan last year, we are having producers willing to open the strings of their purses bit more to make the movies get that grand look. Earlier this year, we had Dileep's Kammara Sambhavam made in a grand manner, and the movie was also the biggest hit of the year in Mollywood. Now it looks like Nivin Pauly's Kayamkulam Kochunni could beat the movie in terms of that epic feel, going by the recently unveiled trailer.
Nivin Pauly stars as the titular protagonist, who is considered as the Robin Hood of Kerala folklore. This could be the biggest film of his career to date, and going by the consistent success he has been getting at the box office, expect Kayamkulam Kochunni to be a big hit. The trailer manages to show convincingly the period setting of the 19th century. The trailer shows a young Kochunni's struggles to learn Kalari, his romances and how his love affair with a Kshudra girl was looked down upon by the casteist society then. He then wages a guerrilla war against the British and the aristocrats, stealing their riches and distributing them to the poor.
For all Mohanlal fans, the Malayalam superstar also makes a cameo towards the end, playing Kochunni's teacher, Ithikkara Pakki.

The movie is directed by Rosshan Andrrews and scripted by Sanjay-Bobby. The team has given us gems like Notebook, Mumbai Police and How Old Are You in the past.
