Suriya and Mohanlal's latest offering Kaappaan, which was released on Friday (September 20), has been successful in making an excellent start at the box office. As per film business analysts, Suriya's Kaappaan is receiving praise from critics as well as movie-goers. The KV Anand-directorial had grossed Rs 89 lakh on its opening day, thereby shattering the first-day collection of Ajith Kumar's Viswasam, which earned Rs 88 lakh. On Sunday (September 22), Entertainment Industry Tracker Ramesh Bala took to the micro-blogging site to share the total box-office collections and wrote, "#Kaappaan rocks the #Chennai City Box office on Day 2.. Grosses ₹ 1.02 Crs.. Taking the 2-days total to ₹ 1.91 Crs.. Another ₹ 1 Cr+ on the cards for Sunday.."

Helmed by KV Anand, Kaappaan revolves around the relationship shared between Mohanlal and Suriya's characters. Kaappaan, earlier this month, had faced charges of plagiarism. Yes, film writer John Charles had accused filmmaker KV Anand of plagiarising his script called Saravedi, in a petition filed by him Charles also demanded the production house to pay the copyright fee and give him the credit for the story. However, all the charges against Kaappaan were dismissed by Madras High Court and it managed to get a smooth release. Stay tuned!
