Jyothika is one of the popular actresses down south who has majorly worked in Tamil films. She has also been featured in Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu and Hindi films. Although she has predominantly worked in south films, Jyothika made her acting debut in Bollywood with the film Doli Saja Ke Rakhna. The plot of this Priyadarshan directorial was adapted from the Malayalam flick Aniyathipraavu. She has done a varied range of films for which her performances were praised. Not only that, there are several films of Jyothika that were remade in other languages as well.
Jyothika who turned 42 today was born to film producer Chander Sadanah (Punjabi) and Seema Sadanah (Maharashtrian). It was in September 2006 when Jyothika tied the knot with Suriya. The popular couple of South Indian cinema have worked together in seven films and they have been a hit. Suriya and Jyothika have been a hit pair, both on-screen and off screen. Kushi – This film turned out to be a major turning point in Jyothika’s career. Directed by SJ Surya, this rom-com was remade in several languages. It was remade in Hindi as Khushi with Kareena Kapoor Khan as the lead actress and in Kannada as Eno Onthara with Priyamani in the lead.
Priyamaana Thozhi – Featuring Madhavan and Jyothika in the lead, this 2003 family drama received average response from critics and fans. It also opened to average collections at the box office. Eight years later, this movie was remade in Kannada as Hoo.
Kaakha Kaakha – The action thriller Kaakha Kaakha featured Jyothika and her husband Suriya in the lead. Directed by Gautham Menon, this movie was not only a blockbuster but also went on to become one of the biggest hits in Suriya’s career. Kaakha Kaakha that opened to positive responses was made remade in several languages.
Thirumalai – It was a romantic action drama starring Thalapathy Vijay and Jyothika as the lead pair. It was with this film that Vijay came to be known as an action hero as well. A super-hit film at the box office, Thirumalai was remade in Telugu with Gowri as the title and released in 2004.
Manmadhan – A romantic crime thriller featuring Silambarasan (in dual roles) and Jyothika in the lead. Silambarasan who played the titular role and also the character named Motta was seen as a serial killer. The lead pair were critically acclaimed for their performance. This movie was also remade in Kannada as Madana.
Shock – This Harish Shankar directorial starring Ravi Teja and Jyothika as the lead pair was an action drama. Produced by Ram Gopal Varma, this movie, released in 2006, was also remade in Kannada as Prince in 2011.
