The much-pending, much-awaited biopic on the late actress and former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa is finally set to go on the floors. Filmmaker Vishnu Induri recently revealed a few bits on the project and they are too interesting. So, for starters, the film will rope a Bollywood actress and the names popping up are Deepika Padukone, Tabu and Vidya Balan. In fact, Balan is already in his another film which is 'NTR Biopic'.
A source told Midday, "Vidya is already in the NTR biopic - playing the protagonist's wife Basavatarakam - so the makers already share a rapport with her." Surprisingly, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is not yet approached for the biopic. For those who came late, let us tell you that during an interview to Simi Garewal in 1999, Jayalalithaa had said that Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan would be best suited to play her on screen.
The publication quotes Induri saying, "We are looking at a Bollywood actress, since this a national, multilingual film. We want the story to travel across India. Though Jayalalithaa was the CM of Tamil Nadu, her story has a global appeal. We have approached two-three top Bollywood actresses. Director Vijay is overseeing the pre-production work of the film."
The film will be directed by Madrasapattinam (2010) fame AL Vijay. Being a multi-lingual film, he will direct in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi simultaneously. Incidentally, Induri is also helming the films like Ranveer Singh starrer 83' and NTR Biopic starring Vidya Balan.
When Jayalalithaa suggested Aishwarya's name for her biopic:
We wonder if the makers will end up signing Aishwarya instead of DP, Tabu and Vidya. After all, she was Amma's first and only choice. Also, Ash's role from her Mani Ratnam's Iruvar was also said to be based on Jayalalithaa's character. Let us wait for the final cast announcement. Who would you like to see as Jayalalithaa on-screen?
