Veteran Tamil director J Mahendran breathed his last on Tuesday morning. The filmmaker was reportedly not keeping well for past few days and was hospitalised in the Apollo hospital in Chennai on Monday night. The last rites of the 79-year-old director are to be performed in the town on Tuesday evening. Saddened by the demise of Mahendran, celebrities from the South Indian film fraternity took to their social media handle to share their condolence posts. The director was last seen in Vijay Sethupathi starrer Seethakaathi and Rajinikanth starrer Petta.

Mahendran is known for his films like Mullum Malarum, Johnny and Nenjathai Killadheyin the South film industry. His son John Mahendran, who is also a director, tweeted the news of his father's sad demise, saying, "DIRECTOR MAHENDRAN PASSED AWAY THIS MORNING."
