Leave it to Mohanlal to woo the audience with an entertaining project and he will deliver to the demands! No wonder he has such a strong fan base who deem him to be Mollywood's superstar. In fact, just the mere mention of Mohanlal in a project makes fans flock over to the cinema house so they can enjoy his work. Keeping the same thing in mind, on a Friday morning, people did take a half-day from work so they could watch Ittymaani: Made in China. Despite some strong competition in the industry as Prithviraaj's Brother's Day and Nivin Pauly's Love Action Drama at the box office, Mohanlal's film has certainly managed to bring forth a lot of audiences thanks to his star power and the intriguing trailer of the film. But did Ittymaani: Made in China live up to the expectations of the fans and critics? Read on to find out what we think of the film. Ittymaani Made in China Quick Movie Review: Mohanlal and Raadhika Sarathkumar’s Film Is Full of Surprises!

Ittymaani: Made in China begins with Mohanlal as Ittymaani, a Christian character rushing to the hospital in a single-seater scooter while his mother is suffering from stones in her gall bladder. Considering her age and the seriousness of the disease, a son would usually not sit and ponder over discounts that he could get from the hospital. But Ittymaani is different. He seeks for-profit and commission even when his mother is at the hospital. Sounds rough and heartless? Well, it isn't as bad as it sounds, which is eventually explained at the end of the film.

Ittymaani: Made in China Official Trailer

Anyway, Ittymaani was born in China and has strong Chinese dialects that work well with his prim and proper Malayalam. He is a middle-aged man who is still looking for a bride. Survived by his mother, an ambulance driver, a loyal cook, a lonely but loving neighbour Annamma Plamoottil and a few comic nemeses, Ittymaani's life is colourful as he runs a duplicate copy store. He basically sells first copies of various commodities. Ittymaani Made in China First Look: What’s Mohanlal Upto Dressed as an ‘Achayathi’? View Pic

One day, loneliness gets to Annamma, who suffers a stroke while her children continue to snub her existence. Annamma has money but lacks the love and attention of her children. The stroke does worry the children but what follows the stroke is so scandalous that her children return to stay with her. While we won't be revealing the suspense, we can safely say that it is the turning point in everybody's life.

Bomma Bomma Song

Debut directors Joji and Jibi have done a pretty good job of bringing forth an important subject in the quirkiest and most hilarious way possible. The second half of the story simply baffles the audience as the events only take a 180 degrees turn. While Joji and Jibi's attempts have been acknowledged and are well-intended, they could have used a better editor to snip out some irrelevant shots from the film to reduce the duration. A 158 minutes long feature gets a little too much to deal with after a point in time. Especially when the end is stretched to an extent but cut short shabbily. Either you invest time equally throughout the film or you keep it crisp and short. Ittymaani Made In China Teaser: Mohanlal's Light-Hearted Comedy Drama Seems Fun (Watch Video)

Performances wise, there is no denying that Mohanlal owns the screen with his showmanship. He makes the audience laugh, feel poignant, cry and bring forth many emotions. The supporting cast of the film, Radhika Sarathkumar, K.P.A.C. Lalitha, Siddique, Swasika, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Salim Kumar, Aju Varghese and Sijoy Varghese to name a few, have held their own and done a fantastic job. Sure, by the end, you do wish the filmmakers edited out unnecessary plot details and stuck to one subject. But the film has such a feel-good factor that you forget about the negatives.

Yays

- Mohanlal's performance as Ittymaani, a Christian Malayali.

- Phenomenal work by the supporting cast, Radhika Sarathkumar, K.P.A.C. Lalitha, Siddique, Swasika, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Salim Kumar, Aju Varghese and Sijoy Varghese.

- Brilliant plot twist

- A poignant subject

- Perfect execution of the first half

- Hilarious

Nays

- Blink and you miss it presence of Mohanlal's love interest, Honey Rose as Jessy Pothen

- Extremely long

- Sloppy execution of second half

- Involvement of a few too many ideas by the end

Final Word

Mohanlal's Ittymaani: Made in China, honestly, has no relevance to China. However, with the idea of duplication and China's ability to perfect it, filmmakers Joji and Jibi have incorporated the same in the film. The plot is a perfect entertainer that makes you feel really good and also realise your duties in life. Overall, the movie might be a little too long but it will keep you entertained throughout so you won't have to worry much.
