Did Suriya Hint at Aamir Khan Playing the Lead in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Dream Project ‘Irumbu Kai Maayavi’? (Watch Video)
Suriya is presently awaiting the release of his big-budget action adventure, 'Kanguva'. The actor has earlier worked with Lokesh Kanagaraj in 'Vikram', where he had made a special appearance as Rolex.
Before Lokesh Kanagaraj immersed himself in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) and introduced Suriya as the fearsome Rolex in Vikram, he had originally planned a sci-fi action thriller with the Tamil superstar. Titled Irumbu Kai Maayavi, the film would feature Suriya as a superhero of sorts, complete with a robotic arm to combat villains. However, this project has languished on the backburner for years. With Lokesh now directing Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, and planning future LCU films, it seems increasingly unlikely that Irumbu Kai Maayavi will ever come to fruition. Aamir Khan To Be a Part of Rajinikanth’s Next Film – Reports.
But wai - rumours are swirling that Lokesh Kanagaraj might soon make his Bollywood debut, and reportedly, none other than Aamir Khan will play the lead. What’s more intriguing is that this Bollywood project may, in fact, be Irumbu Kai Maayavi. Could this mean Suriya is out, and Aamir Khan is in? Interestingly, the actors already share a connection, as Aamir starred in the Hindi remake of Suriya's Tamil hit, Ghajini. Now, will the Bollywood superstar take over Suriya’s role in Kanagaraj’s dream project?
Suriya hinted at this possibility in a recent interview with senior journalist and critic Anupama Chopra. Although he didn’t name Aamir Khan directly, he mentioned that Lokesh Kanagaraj might be developing Irumbu Kai Maayavi either with him or with “a bigger actor.” We can read between the lines! ‘Ghajini 2’: Aamir Khan and Suriya To Shoot Sequel in Hindi and Tamil at Same Time? Here’s What We Know.
In response to Chopra’s question about the much-anticipated Rolex spinoff, Suriya explained, "Lokesh and I spoke. There are two ideas—Rolex and Irumbu Kai Maayavi, which he calls his dream project. I don’t know if it’s coming back to me or to a bigger actor; we don’t know. But the intent is there, the thought is there to work together. We even have a producer waiting." Suriya noted, however, that both he and Lokesh have major commitments to fulfil first, so the project may take time.

Interestingly, a version of Irumbu Kai Maayavi already made a cameo appearance in Bollywood, albeit with a twist, in Ajay Devgn’s Bholaa, where Abhishek Bachchan had a brief role with a dark, villainous angle—a teaser for a sequel that may never come to pass due to Bholaa’s underwhelming box office performance. So now, all eyes are on Lokesh to see if he will finally realise his dream project and, if he does, which Ghajini star he’ll cast.
