‘Devadoothan’ Re-Release Trailer: Mohanlal-Sibi Malayil’s Underrated Supernatural Drama To Return in Theatres in 4K Glory; Release Date Revealed but You Can Still Watch It Online Free (Watch Video)
Devadoothan is re-releasing in theatres on July 26, 2024, in 4K format, 24 years after it infamously failed to click at the box office.
In 2000, Sibi Malayil's Devadoothan came into theatres after a much-troubled production and was met with a cold response from the audience. The movie, despite starring Mohanlal in the lead role, was a box office bomb. But then, in the course of time, thanks to its television reruns, this supernatural thriller gained more love and acceptance from the Malayali audience, making it an underrated cult classic. Many then wondered why the film flopped at the box office. And if you are one of those, then you have a chance to repair that oversight as Devadoothan is all set for a re-release in theatres that too in 4K on July 26. The makers have confirmed this by releasing a new re-release trailer that features memorable scenes from the movie. The 4K mastering has been done by HY Studioz, and the movie will be available with Dolby Atmos effect. Well, that's good news since it would be ethereal to listen to Vidyasagar's brilliant soundtrack for the movie, particularly the musical reinterpretation of "Entharo Mahanubhavulu" that has also been used in the trailer

What's Devadoothan About?
The plot of Devadoothan revolves around Vishal Krishamoorthy, a world-famous composer who revisits his journey to greatness and a supernatural event that sparked it. The movie, written by Raghunath Paleri, is an extended flashback from thereon, as a younger Vishal is brought to his alma mater, where he was once expelled as a student for entering a forbidden arena, to direct a musical play. He is again revisited by paranormal occurrences as if someone beyond the realm of the living wants to communicate through him. Underlying this supernatural mystery is a tragic love story involving the owner of the college, played by Jaya Pradha, and a blind pianist, Maheshwar.
Even though Devadoothan didn't work at the box office, it went on to win three Kerala State Awards for Best Film with Popular Appeal and Aesthetic Value, Best Music Director and Best Costume Designer. The Cast of Devadoothan
Apart from Mohanlal and Jaya Pradha, Devadoothan also stars the late Murali, Janaradhanan, Jagadish, Jagathy Sreekumar, Vijayalakshmi, Lena, Vineeth Kumar, and Sharat Das, among others. Interestingly, Sibi Malayil had once envisioned R Madhavan in the lead role, with the romantic appeal taking more prominence over the supernatural elements in the initial drafts. However, the screenplay got tinkered a few times, and then Mohanlal came on board the film.
