Lucifer is on a roll at the box office. The movie has clicked so well with the audiences in Kerala, and even out of Kerala, that it has become the second Rs 100 crore grosser for its lead star Mohanlal, after Pulimurugan. Lucifer grossed more than Rs 100 crore worldwide within just 8 days, which is a record in itself. In his tweet, Mohanlal shared the news of the box office and congratulated Prithviraj Sukumaran and his team for the achievement. He has also mentioned how the film's success has propelled Malayalam cinema into unchartered territories. Mohanlal might be referring to how Lucifer has been doing extremely good business in Tamil Nadu and even overseas, as in the USA.

Prithviraj, the popular young superstar of Malayalam cinema, had made his directorial debut with Lucifer, with the script written by Murali Gopy. Lucifer is a political thriller that has Mohanlal as an anti-hero who is brought into a political mess created after the demise of the ruling Chief Minister of Kerala. Manju Warrier played the female lead, while Vivek Oberoi made his debut in Malayalam cinema playing Lucifer's antagonist. Lucifer also had popular stars like Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Kalabhavan Shajohn, Sachin Khedekar, Faazil, Saikumar, Baiju Santosh, Nyla Usha and Saniya Iyyapan in the cast. Prithviraj himself had a cameo in the film.
