One of the most popular faces in Bollywood and South film industry - Kamal Haasan turns a year older today. Born on November 7, 1954, the actor turns 64. Over the years, he has given us umpteen movies and characters that we cherish till today. One of his movies like Sadma, which released back in 1983 was too bold for its times. However, the film dealt with a grave issue and kudos to Kamal Haasan and Sridevi for having chosen to do a film like Sadma for those days when the audience wasn't as acceptable as it is today. Here's what you need to know about the star. Hassan started his career as a child artist in 1960. It was a Tamil film Kalathur Kannamma, for which he even won the President's Gold Medal. Post that, new avenues opened up for him and he met director Vaaranam Vijay who is credited for shaping Kamal's acting skills. Kamal started gaining recognition for his work only in 1975 when a film named Apoorva Raagangal, directed by K.Balachander, had him playa rebellious youth who falls in love with an older woman. He won his first National Film Award for his portrayal of a guileless school teacher who cares for a woman who suffers from retrograde amnesia in Moondram Pirai (1983). Some of his notable works include: Mani Ratnam's Nayakan (1987) and S. Shankar's vigilante film Indian (1996), Hey Ram (2000), Virumaandi (2004) and of course Vishwaroopam (2013). In his film, Dasavathaaram (2008), Kamal played as many as ten roles which was quite extraordinary.
He had been involved in politics lately and on February 21, 2018, Kamal Hassan formally launched his political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam. Here's wishing him a very happy birthday.
