Bigil movie review: Thalapathy Vijay fans will not be disappointed this Diwali because Bigil is definitely one of his best films! During the time of festive season, fans generally look for a massy drama from a massy actor. And Vijay is well known to hold that title with full conviction. While filmmakers do approach the actor for his ability to take on challenging performances, fans simply love to watch the actor take on bad guys in big screen. Well, that and romance the ladies while delivering spotless dialogues is what fans especially fawn over. So to please an audience like this while ensuring that the director's vision of a plot is not derailed is asking for too much. But Atlee definitely seems to have found the right balance between all these nuances. And clearly, when he joins hands with Vijay, they make quite a blast at the box office. So how has Bigil fared and why we are relishing the massy masala movie? Read on to know our review. Vijay's Bigil Enjoys Tremendous Advance Booking Sale; Housefull 4 Begins Slow.

The film opens with Michael Rayappan (Thalapathy Vijay) taking on a bunch of goons dressed as cops, to safeguard college students who don't support the demolition of their college. With some more politics thanks to the college committee, things get out of hand. But Michael is a stud who can make any man bend. Of course, Michael is also head over heels in love with Angel Aasirvatham (Nayanthara), who has literally left six men at the altar for Michael. While Michael is an area mob, he has a sweet spot for football in his heart. So when his friend Kathir (Kathir) arrives with his women's football team, Michael is elated. But the whole joy is short-lived as Karthi, the coach of the Tamil Nadu Women's Football Team, is attacked by Michael's arch-nemesis, played by Daniel Balaji. The football team becomes coachless and the women blame Michael for their misfortunes as they are gearing up for the National Tournament.

However, a gravely injured Karthi states that Bigil should be the coach filling in for him so the women can represent the state at the Nationals. This brings forth a flashback including more depth to Bigil, Michael and Rayappan, his father. Rayappan (Thalapathy Vijay) is a ruthless mob who is taking care of the dirt in the area by immersing his hands in blood. The flashback gives us a better understanding of who Bigil is, why Bigil became Michael and how Rayappan played a pivotal role in shaping him up as a compassionate human being. Of course, present day scenario takes us through the tumultuous journey the women team go through as they make their way to the Nationals. There are a lot of conflicts in the form of Bigil's nemesis who attack the team to hurt him. No surprises that Bigil manages to get them all out of the dilemma.

Leave it to Atlee and he will give you a massy entertainer with a very beautiful message. Bigil does the deed of focussing on women empowerment in the most sublime manner. It brings forth subjects of housewives missing out on their passion and acid assault victims moving on in life to continue chasing dreams. Some of the best sequences actually take place in the second half when Atlee puts his attention towards the team, Bigil's camaraderie with the team and how he brings them up for the Nationals, despite several adversaries. Atlee seems to have brought forth a perfect balance between ensuring that the mass is happy with the masala action sequences, dramatic conflicts and social messages that can best be delivered through films. Unlike films that usually mess up with the plot in the second half as they have too many messages to deliver, Atlee has fixated on a few and only worked towards putting up a show centring those points. And yes, it has worked really well.

In terms of performance, Vijay as Rayappan is fantastic! Sure, the character of Rayappan is short-lived but the way Vijay has taken on the role and done justice to it, the actor surely deserves an applause. Rayappan suffers from stammering but the way Vijay brought forth the struggles of Rayappan's speech was impeccable. Not once would you think that he's putting up a mockery of those with speech defects. The others too have done a good job. I did have some hopes from Nayanthara's act as she is the leading lady. Not to mention, over the years, she has cultivated a reputation of being a fine actress who can sustain a show without a male counterpart. So to see less of her in a rather insignificant role did not go down well with me. The music by AR Rahman certainly did strike the right chords as it played well with the poignant scenes. The lyrics especially were very touching and emotional. Yes, a real tearjerker, if you ask me.  HC Allows Script Writer to File Fresh Plagiarism Suit Against ‘Bigil’.
