Telugu movie Arjun Reddy released did great business, left a long-lasting impression and went, but not before inspiring its Hindi and Tamil remakes. While the Hindi one Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, seems to be smooth sailing and in the works, the Tamil remake, that was titled Varmaa and had even finished its shoot. Vermaa was all set to mark the debut of Tamil actor Chiyaan Vikram’s son Dhruv Vikram and Megha Chowdhury. However, the makers also announced that they would only be retaining the lead actor Dhruv Vikram and would re-cast the rest of the crew including the leading lady.

Taking over from Bala, will be Girisayya, who assisted the Sandeep Vanga on the original film. There were reports of the makers had initially approached Sandeep itself for the Tamil remake, but with the latter’s commitments to Bollywood, the opportunity went to Girisayya.

Varmaa fell into trouble when the studio E4 Entertainment did not approve of the final product and released a statement on social media, announcing through a press release that they were unhappy with the final product and that as ‘film doesn't live upto the spirit of the original film’, they had decided to re-shoot the entire film from the scratch. Not taking things lying down, Varmaa’s previous director Bala too released a statement which read, "I am forced to release this explanation, due to the false statement from the producer of Varmaa. In order to safeguard creative freedom, it was my own decision to relieve myself from the project. We wonder if the makers plan on retaining the film’s name or change that too.
