Andhadhun, directed by Sriram Raghavan, bagged three National Film Awards this year. It won in the categories - Best Feature Film in Hindi, Best Actor for Ayushmann Khurrana and Best Screenplay. The film released in October 2018, opened to positive response not just for the fantastic performances put forth by the lead (which also includes Tabu and Radhika Apte), but it was also applauded for a strong plot as well. Now the latest buzz is Andhadhun will get a Tamil remake and Thiagarajan’s son Prashanth would be playing the lead role.
It was in June 2019 when there were reports doing rounds stating superstar Dhanush could acquire the Tamil remake rights of Andhadhun. Mirror had quoted the Maari 2 actor saying as, “(Andhadhun) is a brilliant film and we have already started the process of acquiring the rights. It’s one of those thrillers which I wouldn’t mind remaking in Tamil.” Well, the rights have been acquired by actor-director Thiagarajan Sivanandam.
Chennai-based trade expert Kaushik LM tweeted, “The BO smash hit and multiple National Award winner #Andhadhun Tamil remake to star #Prashanth in the lead.. His dad Thiyagarajan sir has purchased the remake rights..” However, the actresses who would be roped in the lead has not been revealed yet. Talking about acquiring the remake rights Thiagarajan told TOI, “Almost every production house and star in our industry was trying to get the remake rights for this film. But I’ve been in talks with the Bollywood production house since its release because the script is a powerful one. Every time a star expressed interest, the rate shot up, but in the end, since I’ve a good rapport with the production house, having bought their Special 26 rights, I managed to get the rights for this film as well.” Well, we just cannot wait for more updates on this film!
