After Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Chiranjeevi to Star in Mohanlal’s Lucifer Remake; Will Ram Charan Step Into Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Role?
Prithviraj himself confirmed the news that Lucifer remake rights have been taken by Chiranjeevi in his tweet. It is reported that he suggested Ram Charan to play his character in the original film.
After the mixed response to Saaho, every eye is now trained on the next big release that is coming out of Telugu cinema this year - Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. A period action spectacle, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy stars Telugu Megastar Chiranjeevi, playing the titular role of who is touted to be one of India's first freedom fighters. The trailers of the film, directed by Surender Reddy, had already made a great impression with its visual opulence, action sequences and Chiranjeevi's depiction of the protagonist. With Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy all set to release on October 2, Chiranjeevi is not waiting to see the response for his film to select his next. As per latest reports, he has already chosen his next project, this time a remake of Malayalam film, Lucifer.
For those in the dark about this film, Lucifer, considered as one of the most expensive films made in Malayalam cinema, is also the biggest blockbuster of the year. Starring Mohanlal in the lead, the movie is directed by actor Prithviraj Sukumaran, making it his directorial debut. The movie had an ensemble supporting cast in Manju Warrier, Vivek Oberoi, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Kalabhavan Shajon, Faazil with Prithviraj himself appearing in an extended cameo. Prithviraj himself confirmed the news that Lucifer remake rights have been taken by Chiranjeevi in his tweet, when he talked about meeting the superstar during the Kerala launch of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. He also mentioned his regret in not taking up a role in the October 2 release, which makes us wonder which role was Prithviraj offered in the first place.

While Chiranjeevi may have bought the rights of the film, it isn't confirmed if he will play the lead. But then, it makes zero sense if anyone else steps into the shoes of Mohanlal in the remake. Also as per the chatter that happened during the function, Prithviraj was asked to reprise his character in the Malayalam film, but he suggested Ram Charan take on the role. The RRR star, who is Chiranjeevi's son, is also the co-producer of Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy. Prithviraj has also been offered to direct the remake, though nothing has been finalised yet. Interestingly, the Telugu-dubbed version of Lucifer was met with a cold response both from critics and public when it was released in Andhra Pradesh. Let's hope that the remake, whenever it is made, gets a better response.
