Odiyan has been sailing high on Malayalam movie lovers' expectations ever since the movie was announced. The action thriller with supernatural themes has Mohanlal in the lead and is directed by former adman VA Shrikumar Menon. Manju Warrier is the female lead while the movie also stars Prakash Raj, Innocent and Siddique. Reportedly, the costliest film made in Malayalam cinema, the movie has already made Rs 100 crore from advance bookings as per a tweet from the director. Odiyan: Mohanlal's Upcoming Supernatural Action Thriller Gets The Widest Release For a Malayalam Film.

However, Odiyan is also reeling from a threat by notorious Tamilrockers, as per a report in Metromatinee.com. They have threatened that they will be releasing the movie online on the day that it will release. Odiyan is releasing worldwide on December 14. This will be a setback for the film's collections. Even the Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar-starrer was leaked on torrents by the group, though the movie later went on to earn more than Rs 600 crore gross worldwide. So like 2.0, Mohanlal fans could ignore the leak and watch Odiyan on the big screen. Odiyan Trailer: Mohanlal is the King of Darkness in This Thrilling, Action-Packed Promo - Watch Video.

While the police have tried to curb the menace of Tamilrockers in the past, even having arrested the admin, the group still has managed to leak movies on the net.

We are hoping that the buzz generated by Odiyan will entice the movie-goers to the theatres rather than watch a bad print on the net. As per trade estimates, there is a high possibility that Odiyan will go past the box office collections of Pulimurugan, also starring Mohanlal in the lead.

In an interview to Indian Express, Menon had this to say about his film, "Odiyan will end the bottled up emotions of a Malayalee, who feels that Malayalam cinema is not getting its due recognition beyond Kerala. Odiyan is releasing in 278 theaters in Telugu states. A Mohanlal film is releasing in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh with a similar vibrancy of a film with a leading Telugu actor. In Tamil Nadu, it will release on more than 200 screens. The movie will release in every city across the country. And we are also releasing the film in 35 countries on the same day (as India release). We have heard stories about Rajinikanth’s film releasing in Japan. For the first time, our Lalettan’s film will release there on December 14." Odiyan will see the widest release for a Malayalam film worldwide.
