Everyone is all praise for Akshay Kumar character as Richard/The Crow/Dr Pakshirajan. In the film, the actor, who is upset with the destruction of the environment due to excessive use of technology, destroys the people who uses smart phones. Talking about it, Akshay, in a statement, had said, "There is a moment in the story that emphasises the other living creatures on planet earth. It says that the planet not only belongs to the human race but also to animals and birds. Though animals and plants cannot raise their voice against human beings, they have the right to live. So, do not spoil the mother nature."

Helmed by Shankar, 2.0 is the sequel to 2010 blockbuster Enthiran, in which Rajinikanth reprises his roles of scientist Dr Vaseegaran and his creation robot Chitti while Akshay Kumar, who made his Kollywood debut with this film, joins the cast as villainous ornithologist Dr Richards.
