Scenarist Shankar Ramakrishnan is known for scripting movies like Urumi and Natholi Oru Cheriya Meen Alla. As an actor, we have seen him in films like Spirit, Bavuttiyude Namathil, Silence, Nirnnayakam and White. Shanker had also directed a film, but it was more of a segment (Island Express) in the anthology movie, Kerala Cafe. With 18am Padi (Pathinettam Padi), this would be his first feature-length directorial venture, with an interesting cast, headed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tamil star Arya and the great Mammootty. Pathinettam Padi All Set to Release on July 5! These Stills from Prithviraj Sukumaran and Mammootty Starrer Are a Must See.

However, the three superstars don't dominate the first trailer of 18am Padi. Prithviraj's voiceover tells us that this is a story of an intense rivalry between two schools - a government aided one and a posh educational system, set in the '90s. With newcomers leading the show, the trailer showcases enough moments of their rivalry, as well as glimpses of high school romances, hartals and clashes with the school officials and police. Prithviraj and Arya play the grownup versions of the rival gang-leaders, who believe it is their rivalry who made them what they are.

Towards the end of the trailer arrives Mammootty in an unusual, but stylish avatar as the pony-tailed John Abraham Palackal. The trailer does little to suggest what role Palackal has among the students in 18am Padi.

The other notable names in the cast are Aahana Krishna, Manoj K Jayan, Lalu Alex, Suraj Venjaaramoodu, and Saniya Iyappan. The movie is produced under Prithviraj Sukumaran's former production banner, August Cinemas.
