South Indian Actress Krishna Kumari Passes Away at 85
Krishnakumari had done over 50 movies in Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil.
Senior South Indian Actress Krishna Kumari has passed away at the age of 85 years. She had done over 50 movies in Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil and total of about 170 movies! She was one of the noted actresses from the 1960s to 1980s. Krishna Kumari was aged but her sudden death has saddened many fans. The former actress was suffering from health-related issues from sometime and breathed her last at her Bangalore residence.
She was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer and was under treatment in Apollo Hospital for the last few months. She underwent chemotherapy in March 2017. She is survived by her daughter Dipika. Krishna Kumari was married to Ajay Mohan Khaitan, the former editor of the Indian Express and founder of Screen Magazine and Businessman. She had quit acting after her marriage and lived with her family in Bangalore. She was born in West Bengal in 1933 and made her acting debut in Telugu film Navvithe Navaratnalu in 1951. She has worked with legends actors from the industry like NT Rama Rao, Krishnam Raju, Dr. Rajkumar, Sivaji Ganesan, Kanta Rao, and Jaggayya.
Krishna Kumari was the sister of another yesteryear famous actress Sowkar Janaki. She did fewer roles, mostly guest appearances in films after her marriage. She was so popular that even when she gave interviews, people would guess her re-appearances in films. Some of her classic films were Bharya Bhartalu, Kulagotralu, Gudigantalu, Dr. Chakravarthi, Chikkadu Dorakadu. She had even tried her luck in Hindi films but it did not favor her.
Her daughter has chronicled the journey of the actress in her biography titled My Mother - T Krishna Kumari. It talks about the teen life of the star and how she was spotted by a producer at a cinema hall and then began her journey to stardom. She was no less than a legendary actress in her span of career.
