It is often said that fact is stranger than fiction. Each person’s life is a treasure trove of experiences, emotions, and stories, just waiting to be discovered. Conveying stories inspired by real-life events is an art in itself. When it comes to real-life adaptations, Vedd Rawtaani is a name that comes to mind. His web series, titled Pyaar on the Rocks helped reveal his unrivalled talent as a truly masterful director.

Vedd Rawtaani’s passion for direction, writing, and editing surfaced in his early childhood. His foray into the film world was marked by the release of Pyaar on the Rocks when he was a mere 21 years old. Rather than conjuring up far-fetched plots, he chose to draw inspiration from real-life scenarios as well as experiences of those around him. It was this approach which formed the basis of his landmark web series, which went on to garner more than 5 million views online. Vedd elaborated, “People often fail to notice that each one of us is living out numerous stories as we live out our lives. These are real trials and tribulations and often prove to be far more impactful than made up scenarios. Reality is often the greatest story of all.”

Pyaar on the Rocks aired on Sony Liv had established Vedd as a promising new director, who understood the pulse of his audience. Apart from legions of fans, the series was appreciated for its base in realism, merged with hints of humour, while narrating a story from the perspectives of three primary protagonists. Vedd knew he had chosen the right path, as his passion for film craft proved to be the perfect fit.

Rawtaani went on to work in more than 25 digital ads as well as television commercials, as his peers noticed his talent. In the last few years, he has worked with several stalwarts of the industry, while building a stellar reputation along the way. He was one of the first directors to embrace OTT platforms. Rawtaani added, "The digital realm gives us unhindered access to a much wider audience. It allows us to pander to a larger demographic. For creative people like me, it is a boon as we can craft new stories and experiment with narratives. That’s exactly what I was able to do with Pyaar on the Rocks."

While his landmark web series landed him in the limelight, Vedd Rawtaani has proved to be an adept writer, director, and editor, having worked on several diverse projects. He spends much of his time looking for inspiration, as he chooses to push the limits of his creativity. His ability to craft compelling stories is only matched by his unending passion for storytelling.  With several new projects lined up in the near future, we are sure that his work will continue to etch out his legacy in the hearts and minds of his audience.
