Shahid Kapoor is still running high on the success of his last film, Kabir Singh, the Hindi remake of Telugu blockbuster, Arjun Reddy. The film, which also stars Kiara Advani has made more than Rs. 200 crore at the box-office. Everyone is now waiting to hear about Shahid's next film after Kabir Singh and while the actor has not confirmed anything on that front, it was being said that he will star in another Hindi remake of another Telugu movie, Jersey, that starred Nani in the lead role. The rights for the Hindi version have apparently been bagged by Karan Johar, however, according to Pinkvilla, nothing has been finalised yet as Dil Raju, who was the producer of the original film has refused to give the rights to Dharma Productions.

"It was Shahid who showed a keen interest in Jersey. He was instrumental in making sure the film gets a Hindi remake. When he watched the film, he felt it has got a universal appeal and it caught his fancy. It is extremely emotional and is based on cricket and Shahid has been wanting to do a sports film for quite some time now," a source tells the entertainment portal. Not Shahid Kapoor, Raj Kapoor Was the First Kabir Singh of Bollywood? Your love is so overwhelming words will always fall short. Thank you for understanding him forgiving him and loving him with all your heart. We all fall apart. And we all must strive to rise from our faults. To be better. To be wiser. To be kinder. He is flawed. So are we all. You didn’t judge him you experienced him. You understood him. I have never ever felt so thankful. The most flawed character I have ever played. Has become my most loved. Indeed indian cinema and the audience has come a long way. More power to brave choices. More power to you all for your maturity and humanness. You have given me wings to fly. To not only be burdened by the need to be loved to be a star but to have the courage to be hated in equal measure to be an actor. Here’s to cinema mirroring life. To protagonists who don’t have to be restricted by their goodness and can be human and imperfect. There is perfection in imperfection and that is the beauty and the challenge of this human life. Thank you. Again and again. You all are the heroes of this story.

So what went wrong, you ask? The report further suggests that it was Rana Daggubati, who is a dear friend of Karan connected him to Dil. "Rana Daggubati who is a friend of Karan Johar and Dil Raju, the producer of Jersey, got both of them connected. It was Rana who told KJo to take up the rights to the film and when the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director watched it, he also loved it. Shahid also touched base with Karan and both of them agreed to do the film," the source was further quoted.

However, there was apparently some disagreement between Karan and Dil when it came to money, after which Dil refused to give the rights of Jersey to KJo. Now, Dil will be bankrolling the Hindi remake of Jersey. Unfortunately, Shahid might not be a part of it as the report states that Shahid is not very keen to do another South remake right after Kabir Singh. So the mystery behind Shahid's next film still continues.
