Director Nagraj Manjule and actors Rinku Rajguru and Aakash Thosar of the 'Sairat' film fame have joined the Raj Thackeray led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's- MNS film workers' union on Tuesday. Sairat became the first Marathi film to earn Rs 100 crores at the box office when it had released in the year 2016.
Sairat saw its Hindi remake this year, titled Dhadak. Dhadak Movie Review: Ishaan Khatter - Janhvi Kapoor's Romantic Saga is a Watered-Down, Pointless Remake of Sairat. The film marked the debut of late actress Sridevi's daughter Janhvi Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor's brother Ishaan Khattar.
A picture was shared on micro blogging social media site Twitter, which shows the president of the MNS film workers' union president Ameya Khopkar along with director of Sairat film, Nagraj Manjule and the actors of the Marathi blockbuster film. Established in the year 2009, the MNS film workers' union has been vocal in its demand for giving multiplex show timings to Marathi films. Khopkar had earlier alleged Yash Raj Films- YRF of "arm-twisting multiplexes" to show their films at the cost of Marathi films in Mumbai.
"We will not allow YRF to shoot anywhere in the state,” Khopkar had warned on the issue of Marathi film Deva not getting prime-time show timings at the time of release of Salman Khan starrer Tiger Zinda Hai.
