Netflix’s first Indian original series Sacred Games starring Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui is a cat-and-mouse thriller. It revolves around two men one is a cop and the other a notorious gangster. The plot is simple on the surface. It's about good versus bad, but a closer inspection reveals the complexity of the characters involved as indeed that of the plot.
While the lead characters have grabbed us by the eyeballs, there's a quirky character sketch that is all set to tilt the plot with its presence. There'a transgender placed in this dark tale who is going to add the much-needed spice in one of the key twists. Kubbra Sait, who made her Bollywood debut with Salman Khan’s ‘Ready’ in 2011, followed by ‘Jodi Breakers’ in 2012, and Sultan in 2016 among others is the one we are talking about.
The actor-anchor who has the penchant for portraying challenging characters will be seen playing a transgender in the highly anticipated web series, Sacred Games. Ever since the trailer of the web series has been unveiled, Kubbra has received praises galore for her character and her striking unique look, attempted by very few actresses before. Kubbra was highly appreciated for her performance in her last web series Going Viral with Kunal Roy Kapoor.
"Interestingly, since it was a challenging character, Kubbra had worked rigorously to make it look and sound relatable and also understood the gestures and mannerisms to pull it off with great conviction. The actress had to spend hours for the makeup session for what she believes is one of the toughest roles to execute," says a source from the industry.
Kubbra says,"Sacred Games has actually turned out to be the most challenging experience of my acting career. Playing a transgender isn't easy as there are hardly any references that you can source out and seek help from. I went by my gut instinct and tried doing what I was told to on the set. I hope the audience likes my performance."
On work front, Kubbra will also be seen in Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy alongside Ranveer Singh and ALTBalaji’s web series, A Family.
