Bhojpuri superstar Ravindra Shyamnarayan Shukla, more popularly known as Ravi Kishan, celebrates his 50th birthday on Wednesday, July 17. The actor, known for his dialogue delivery and dancing skills, endured himself to the masses of UP, Bihar and Bhojpuri speaking population in other states. Born on July 17, 1969 in Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur district, Ravi Kishan has often mentioned how he used to get beaten by his father for "dancing and acting". He soon found work in few films but his real break came in Bhojpuri movies as his pairing with actress Nagma became an instant hit.

After gaining immense popularity among the people of UP and Bihar through his work in the Bhojpuri industry, Ravi Kishan turned his attention towards politics. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he contested on a Congress ticket from his hometown in UP, Jaunpur, but lost as he could garner few votes.

But in February 2017, Ravi Kishan joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP nominated Ravi Kishan from Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seat, the constituency previously represented by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
