Priya Prakash Varrier, the winking sensation of the nation, is in a legal trouble yet again! The Malayalam teen just winked in Manikya Malaraaya Poovi from upcoming Mollywood film Oru Adaar Love. However, this antic of hers has not gone down well with some of the religious beings. An FIR was filed against India’s latest national crush in the Supreme Court stating that winking is 'forbidden in Islam.' As reported in Bar and Bench, an intervention application was filed by two persons hailing from Hyderabad. The duo reasoned that the act of ‘winking’ is 'forbidden in Islam' and that the picturization of the song, seen along with the lyrics, might be considered as ‘blasphemy.’
For those who are uninitiated, the song contains the lyrics from the song Mappila which rejoices the love between Prophet Mohammed and his first wife Beevi Khadija. The winking act of the diva while playing the same lyrics led them to file this complaint.
This is not the first time that the song grabbed the headlines. When the video was released, another man had filed a complaint and the Supreme Court, on 21 February, stayed the FIR. Reacting on the controversy, director Omar Lulu was quoted saying, “This song has been around since 1978 and I was surprised how it became an issue now. In Kerala, I don't think there was any opposition.”
On the other hand, Priya thanked the fans for supporting her through these times. She was quoted saying, "People like us, who have just started our career, get tensed with such things. I am happy with the order of Supreme Court. Main sabko thank you kehna chahoongi support karne ke liye (I would love to say thank you to all who supported).”
