Popular YouTuber PewDiePie is taking a break. The blogger, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, has enjoyed his status as the most popular YouTuber for a long time. Before T-Series jumped into action, PewDiePie was the most subscribed channel on YouTube. In his latest video, though, he seems to be done with it, for now. In the video, he criticised YouTube's inability to correctly enforce the latest harassment policies. He further added, “I am taking a break from YouTube next year. I wanted to say it in advance because I made up my mind.”
“I’m tired,” he continued. “I’m feeling very tired. I don’t know if you can tell. Just so you know, early next year I’ll be a way for a little while. I’ll explain that later but I wanted to give a heads up.”
Back in August, he had said in a video, “I do think it would be good for me to take a break at some point. It would be nice to not have YouTube in my brain for the first time in 10 years.” 'Don’t Be Like Ekta Kapoor', YouTuber PewDiePie Reacts to the Producer’s Twitter Rant – Watch Video.
But this is the not the first time he has contemplated a sabbatical in a 10 year long career as content creator. He took a small break in November 2016.
"The thing I've learned about YouTube's policies is that it doesn't matter what they say, what matters is how they enforce it," Kjellberg said in his video. "YouTube creators are degenerates, they're the worst people out there,"
"The only thing keeping these YouTube vultures in check is other YouTubers … Don't come and ruin it for us YouTube," he said, adding that you will be called out if you do or say something dumb. This comes after his friend's channel, iDubbbz, suffered because of the new policies. One of the videos on the channel was taken down by YouTube. This seems to have not gone down well with the YouTuber.
But be assured that PewDiePie is NOT quitting YouTube altogether. In all rationality, this should be a tiny break from the exhausting process of being relevant on YouTube constantly. Lilly Singh aka iiSuperwomanii did it once and came back stronger. Also, let us not forget that PewDiePie recently got married, so more responsibilities, guys.
Meanwhile, PewDiePie has begun the process of social media absence. He has deleted his Twitter account which had over 19 million followers. In his video explaining the same, he said that Twitter users “can’t seem to help themselves from pointing out what is good and what is bad.”
PewDiePie also cited examples of JK Rowling changing things about Harry Potter series, as “a way to posture for social virtue points.” He added that the site is becoming “a cesspool of opinion.”
“We don’t reward the ones who say they run the fastest but thanks to social media this has somewhat become backwards. You get rewarded for saying things that make you seem virtuous rather than acting on it," he added.
In his last few tweets he called the media outlets that said he is quitting YouTube, correcting them that he is only taking a break.
