On August 5 it was announced that Jammu and Kashmir will no longer enjoy the special status. The Centre decided to revoke Article 370 from the Indian Constitution. Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan is the Special Assistant to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Information and Broadcasting. She was quoted by Geo News, “No Indian movie to be screened in Pakistani cinemas,” reports ANI. As per the report in Geo News, Awan in an interaction with the media outside Parliament House said that a policy will be formulated and all kinds of Indian cultural content will be banned in Pakistan. Pakistani actress Mahira Khan who played the lead actress in Raees tweeted on August 5, “'Have we conveniently blocked what we don’t want to address? This is beyond lines drawn on sand, it’s about innocent lives being lost! Heaven is burning and we silently weep. #Istandwithkashmir #kashmirbleeds'.”
On February 14, 2019, when the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama took place, leaving 40 CRPF jawans dead, the Indian film fraternity took a stand of not to release any Indian movies in the neighbouring country. Not only that, the All Indian Cine Workers Association also announced that a complete ban on Pakistani actors in India.
