PadMan Box Office Collection Second Weekend: Akshay Kumar's Film Ruins His Rs 100 Crore Streak; Earns Rs 71.90 Crore Only

Akshay Kumar had been having a really golden run at the box office these days, with Airlift, Rustom, Housefull 3, Jolly LLB 2, Toilet Ek Prem Katha all entering the Rs 100 crore club. But it all ended with PadMan's underwhelming box office returns.

Has the law of averages finally caught up with Akshay Kumar? If that's the case, it's too bad it happened with PadMan, a movie with a good message and also happens to be his wife Twinkle Khanna's maiden production. The R Balki movie addressed the issue of removing taboos surrounding menstruation, inspired by the life of Tamil Nadu social activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, who made low-cost sanitary pads. Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte play the female leads.

PadMan has its heart in its right place and has some good moments, but both don't make for good viewing experience. PadMan is struggling at the box office not able to make it through the Rs 100 crore club, something that has been Akshay Kumar's forte in the past couple of years. As it goes past its second weekend, the movie has collected only Rs 71.90 crore. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, while tweeting out these figures, ruled out the possibility of the movie entering the Rs 100 crore club.

Here's Taran Adarsh's tweets on PadMan's box office performance,

Akshay Kumar had been having a really golden run at the box office these days, with Airlift, Rustom, Housefull 3, Jolly LLB 2, Toilet Ek Prem Katha all entering the Rs 100 crore club. But it all ended with PadMan's underwhelming box office returns (it has not even recouped its budget of Rs 90 crore - production cost + Marketing cost).

But Akshay Kumar fans need not fear - he still has some really interesting movies in hand to get him back to the groove. His next release is Gold, that narrates India's first Olympic win as a free country in hockey. Then there is Housefull 4 and Kesari. And of course, if and when it release, his (and perhaps India's) costliest movie till date, 2.0, that has suffered delays due to its extensive post-production schedules.
