PadMan is a movie that should work based on the word of mouth thanks to the positive feedback it is getting from the viewers as well as its message-oriented theme. As you are aware, it is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a Tamil Nadu-based social activist who made low cost sanitary pads, and therefore discusses the taboos surrounding the topic of menstruation. But it also stars Akshay Kumar in the lead and the movie should have got off to a flying start.

Instead, PadMan is going at a decently steady pace crossing Rs 50 crore in five days. Here's what popular trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted, "#PadMan crosses ₹ 50 cr mark... Fri 10.26 cr, Sat 13.68 cr, Sun 16.11 cr, Mon 5.87 cr, Tue 6.12 cr. Total: ₹ 52.04 cr. India biz."

As you can see, the Monday collections of the movie had taken a drastic dip, but there is slight improvement on Tuesday. At this moment, we have to check and see if the movie is able to cross more than Rs 100 crore at the domestic box office that Akshay Kumar movies in recent times have been able to do easily.

However, with Sidharth Malhotra's Aiyaary and Hollywood movie Black Panther coming out this Friday, it is quite an uphill task for PadMan. Also, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat is still going strong in the theatres. But even slow and steady wins the race, doesn't it?

PadMan, which marks the maiden production venture of Twinkle Khanna, is directed by R Balki. Akshay Kumar plays a simple, poor but brilliant mechanic in a village in Madhya Pradesh who tries to make affordable sanitary napkins for his wife. Radhika Apte plays Akshay's wife in the movie, while Sonam Kapoor plays a city-bred girl who helps him in his endeavours only to develop romantic feelings for him.
