Padmaavat Box Office Collection: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Film Earns Rs 549 Crore Globally

Padmaavat became the career-best performance of all the main people involved in the project - director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh - box office wise.

Karni Sena might have been the reason why Padmaavat got a fractured release when it came out on January 25. But then again, it is also the reason why Padmaavat has got the attention of the 'rebellious' audience who flocked into the theatres to see what;s the whole deal was about. This, of course, leads to great box office returns and Padmaavat became the career-best performance of all the main people involved in the project - director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh -  box office wise.

Currently the movie has earned Rs 540 crore globally, making it Bollywood's highest grossing movie of the year -  a record that won't be broken at least for a couple of months. In India the movie has earned Rs 276.50 crore in all the languages released, as per trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

Here's Taran Adarsh's latest update on Padmaavat,

Even though the movie has its own set of huge flaws and is often accused of being too partial to Rajput culture (something it has been accused of doing the reverse), Padmaavat continues to dominate the box office. Whereas, the movies that came after, be it Akshay Kumar's PadMan or Sidharth Malhotra's Aiyaary, are struggling at the box office.

What goes to show the incredible popularity of the magnum opus at the box office is that it has been a money spinner in what is normally looked at as the 'lean period' with no holidays or long weekends. With both critics and audiences loving the period drama, 'Padmavaat' looks like it will break a few more box office myths.
