Today’s Google Doodle was dedicated to Padma Bhushan recipient and noted danseuse Mrinalini Sarabhai’s 100th birth anniversary. The legendary dancer’s work is world-renowned and is appreciated in all corners of the world. In the Google Doodle, Mrinalini is shown with her signature parasol, standing proudly in the auditorium Darpana Academy of Performing Arts where her students are dancing on the stage. Fondly known as Amma, she was trained in Bharatnatyam, Kathakali and Mohiniyattom and was educated under Rabindranath Tagore.

Mrininali Sarabhai passed away at 97 in the year 2016. The renowned dancer and performer has trained over 18,000 dancers in classical Indian dance forms. Mrinalini was born in Kerala and spent her early years in Switzerland. Apart from being a classical dancer, she was also a poet, writer and environmentalist. For her dance shows, Prime Ministers and Presidents were often in the front row of her performances. Mrinali Sarabhai has been national civilian awards – Padma Shri in 1965 and Padma Bhushan in 1992. The Darpana Academy of Performing Arts celebrated its golden jubilee in December 1998.
