Standup Comedian Utsav Chakraborty was one of the first names that were dragged in, when the #MeToo movement began to grow wings in India (after the Tanushree Dutta-Nana Patekar controversy). The trouble for him began with an activist sharing screenshots of messages from anonymous women on social media, claiming that Utsav used to harass them by sending dirty texts and asking them to send nudes. From Asking Nudes and Sending Genitals Pic to Being Suicidal, Here is What Comedian Utsav Chakraborty is Going Through Right Now!
With more and more allegations piling up against the comedian, even his peers began to distance themselves from him. It also led to a fall-out between Utsav and comedy group All India Bakchod (AIB), in whose videos he used to appear. The group also received a lot of flak for ignoring the complaints about Utsav, leading to the disintegration of AIB. Now, nearly a year after the mess, Utsav has decided to speak up through his Twitter feed, and he does that by sharing even more screenshots. In this Twitter thread, Utsav confirms the texts that he had sent to a girl on Instagram where he was sexting. But he claims that that portions of the girl's chat were deleted to make him look like a pervert, who was harassing a girl.
Here are his Tweets:

Okay, I'll start.
You guys remember this screenshot? It was posted by this guy called @sanilgosavi, got a tonne of retweets and basically showed how deplorable and unrelenting a creep I was. So convincing that when I first saw it, I believed it myself. Not gonna lie. pic.twitter.com/jk8hynAkZK

This was a tricky one to dismiss because it was definitely my writing. Definitely the words I use to sext. Except it's a long string of unreplied words with someone saying that they're uncomfortable at the end. A lot of (remaining) close friends distanced from me when they saw it

But when I looked into it further it was clear as day. One half of the conversation was missing. What sorcery was this??!
Turns out Instagram DMs have a fun feature where you can delete your side of the convo making the other person look like a complete psycho creep. pic.twitter.com/Gr6J2pIq3Z

Her saying 'won't be comfortable' was a reply to me asking her to talk in the video I was asking her to send. It was NOT a comment on my seemingly relentless barge of words.
I tried to look for her and this conversation on Instagram. But couldn't find it. I had been blocked.

After the events of 4th October 2018, a lot of people had blocked me. Either out of disgust or to convey a collective solidarity for the women who I allegedly harassed. I assumed she too must've been feeling the same and did what she did.

So I did some snooping around my saved screenshots and realized that this person's handle was 'Chanzpapi' on Instagram and also that the contents of the screenshot preceded an explicit photo from her. Following which I tracked her on Facebook and confronted her. pic.twitter.com/szOokYBRSK

So what I gathered was that @chanya_jaitly shared a doctored picture of our conversation during #metoo with her ex-boyfriend who shared the screenshot without her consent when my name was trending last year thanks to @AGirlOfHerWords' valiant efforts.

Can't debate the authenticity of her explanation but I'll let her have the benefit of the doubt. @chanya_jaitly further agreed to put up a public apology. So everyone reading this: DO NOT ADMONISH/BELITTLE/HARASS HER. She made a mistake. She is owning up to it. Let. Her. Be.

In a nutshell, Utsav is sharing the proof that the girl with whom he was chatting had shared doctored screenshots of their sexts to her ex. That ex later made them viral, leading to the comedian being embroiled in the #MeToo scandal. In the below tweet, Utsav claims that this is the first of many clarifications that he is going to post.
This was the first of many. There are several more coming. AND DO NOT BE AWFUL TO THE PEOPLE I NAME. DO NOT DO TO THEM WHAT YOU DID TO ME. Okay thanks.
— Utsav Chakraborty (@Wootsaw) November 21, 2019
Utsav also shared the screenshot of the apology tweets by the person who had sent the screenshots of the doctored chats. He added that the person should not be harassed in any circumstance.
This is the screenshot of the apology that @chanya_jaitly put up. She had to protect her tweets. Guys, PLEASE let her be. She did not intend any harm. It's possible that she was caught in the vitriol of the movement but so were most of you. So lay off. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/6XUvDhqQRg

There is another twist in the tale too. An audio clip from a channel called 'Expose Mahima' is going viral, which allegedly transcripts a chat between Utsav and the activist's lawyer. In the conversation, we hear the lawyer threatening Utsav with dire legal consequences if he tries to share the screenshots for proving his innocence.
With Utsav sharing more proof of his innocence in the days ahead, we have to see if this is the case of people jumping the gun in this matter. If that's what happens, then it would be a huge dent to the #MeToo movement that is struggling to get acceptance from all quarters.
