If sex is prohibited and sinful, then why do we have so many people in this country? Why English cuss words are seen as cool, such as f**k is cool, but their Hindi counterparts, such as C#%t*#a , are looked down upon? This hard-hitting and hardcore rap featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and rapper Raftaar puts the ugly side of the society bluntly. The song is a tribute to one of the most celebrated Urdu writers, Saddat Hasan Manto, who is known for using the tool of writing as a catharsis, which in turn would hold a mirror to society.
'Manto' is a biographical drama film, written and directed by actor turned filmmaker Nandita Das. The film stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the title character of Indo-Pakistani, Urdu author, writer Saadat Hasan Manto. The film will release on 21st September. But what has got us completely hooked is this rap.
The rap encapsulates Manto's persona, his personality and his elaborate work in a rebellious way. The attempt made here is to comment on the various issues the society either neglects and clearly refuses to discuss in a contemporary way. Nawaz's presence in this video is unmistakable and Raftraar keeps the tempo at the correct levels. For the lyrics, well ....you have got to listen to this one to know what are we talking about!
