The new Apple iPhone X ad is garnering attention like no other ad of the same brand did before. Do you know why? It’s because of the evergreen catchy music by Indian music maestro Rahul Dev Burman aka RD Burman. Popularly known as Pancham Da in Bollywood, he gave us several melodious and hit tracks to keep in our hearts forever. Probably, even after so many years after his death, the craze for his music refuses to slow down! The special anniversary edition iPhone from the Cupertino-based tech giant recently released a new advertisement. The music of this ad has the credit of Pete Canon. However, Canon himself clarified that the piece ‘samples a track from the great R D Burman's 'Burning Train’ and it's a MAGICAL piece of music!' For the uninitiated, music track from the song ‘Meri Nazar Hai Tujh Pe’ from the movie.

If you are surprised by R D Burman’s reach in the international markets, we would love to share that he already has done a whole album titled ‘Pantera’. The Latin-American-Indian music album brought out in 1987, was a radio chartbuster in New York Hit Parade. This album was sponsored by renowned music director and RD’s dad SD Burman along with friend Pete Gavankar, who aspired to explore world music.

The story behind the creation of this album is quite interesting. It happened so that Pancham Da created 15 tunes for the album in the span of a week. These tunes were taken back to US by Gavankar, who then handed them to his sister Nilu. Nilu had a good connection in San Fransico’s pop song circle. Here, she played the music for Jose Flores who instantly liked 5 of them. Jose worked on the tunes and sent it to RD only to blow his mind. This inspired Burman to go to San Fransico and work on the album.

In an interview to a leading magazine, Burman earlier told, “The number began with a bang, 'New York City, Chicago, LA, San Francisco and Bombay'. All the people there started dancing. At the climax all were clapping. I was so moved I almost cried.”

RD Burman can easily be termed as pied piper of Indian music industry who mesmerized people wherever he went. It is a delight that his music has once again reached to a new audience. Pancham Da’s music is here to stay forever.
