Many are baffled at the way Korean dramas have engulfed our viewing lists. There are a couple of reasons for that and one of the most underrated ones is they don't waste characters based on gender. So in any series, a female character lends as much to the story as their male counterparts. What's even better is some of these shows write their female characters so strong and wise that they smash the cliched 'damsel in distress' tropes. Today we will talk about these series which made its female characters the master and saviours of their own lives. Twenty Five Twenty One, Thirty Nine, Pachinko - 5 Kdramas of 2022 That Gave Life Lessons We Didn't Know We Needed.

Kim Hee-Sun - Tomorrow

Kim Hee Sun plays Koo Ryeon, a grim reaper and the leader of a crisis management team. Watching a female grim reaper is so rare in Korean dramas that alone made us quite happy about this show. She has a dark past that propels her present. She can come across as cold and emotionless but she is steadfast in her resolve. In fact, in the end, she saves her from slipping into complete chaos even when there was a man towering over her. The aura of Kim Hee Sun just washes over you and leaves you energised!

Park Eun Bin - Extraordinary Attorney Woo

Had it been made in India, Extraordinary Attorney Woo would have been all about how the hero would first reluctantly accept an autistic female and then eventually fall for her while she struggles to meet the demands of her in-laws. But since it's Korean drama, Park Eun Bin's character is determined, and ambitious and works at a law firm where she actually solves cases. In fact, she never needed a man to help her in any way, be it her career or navigating personal feelings. The kdrama treats her as a regular character with special abilities, which makes it an 'extraordinary' show.

Kim Go Eun - Little Women

This is perhaps the most cliched damsel in distress character we have ever seen but here, the damsel solves and fixes the distress on her own. Even when she had a very capable and shadily loyal man helping her. She cribs, cries, is weak, meek, and timid and yet when things go south, she saves herself. This series should be a guidebook for every woman who thinks she is weak.

Kim Hye Soo - Juvenile Justice

If we keep aside the relevancy and poignancy of the plot of Juvenile Justice, just watching Kim Hye Soo belting out justice is a high in itself. She is up against many to let the under-18s be given a chance to reform but she only believes in giving justice. What an infectiously powerful character! Year-Ender 2022 Recap: Juvenile Justice, Shooting Stars - 5 Korean Dramas Of The Year That Should Have Been Talked About More.

Kim Min-ha - Pachinko

Based on the period of yore, Pachinko is a story of a woman's grit and determination to fight all odds. Kim Min-ha played Sunja who had to go through extreme situations all her life but she kept her promise to her son of giving him a good life. All the while, she turned her circumstances around all on her own.
