So Heartbeat ended with a heartbreak. Post 2021, we have become quite insulated from such kdrama endings. Ok Taeceyeon played a Vampire to the T. But we didn't see him as the sun-light fearing, blood-sucking monster that is prevalent in several stories. He is a much subdued person who has impressive control over his blood lust. Guess more than 100 years of existence gives you that power of resistance. Even Won Ji An's character wasn't shown as a damsel in distress who needed saving everytime. She is today's woman who can take care of herself and decides to build a future from what she has. Heartbeat: 5 Dialogues By Won Ji An That Summarise Our Life And Love
Now the problem is the ending. While we were expecting the turns it took at the finale, it could have been a lot better. Let us tell you five reasons why we feel Heartbeat's end could have been much more impressive.
Open ending - not required
There was no need for an open ending here. Even if the makers decide to do a season 2, the story would have lent itself to the follow-up organically. We are happy that they didn't show an obvious culmination where the hero returns but it could have had some finality. In Hae (Won Ji An) got the courage and love she always wanted from Woo Hyeol (Ok Taecyeon) and that should have been it. This would have found many takers especially those who lost a lot but know how to celebrate what they have. But with an open ending, all people are imagining whether or not they will be the endgame.
Hae Sun Connection - could have been avoided
Ok Taeceyeon's Woo Hyeol wanted to be human to feel love and be loved. Hae Sun (Yoon So-Hee) was his one true love and he was convinced her reincarnated self will find him one day. But instead, he falls for In Hae for who she is. So the whole scene where they make a connection between her and Hae Sun seemed pointless. If the writers had left it at Woo Hyeol falling for a common person he didn't intend to, Heartbeat would have resonated with many. Because Love can happen at any time, anywhere and with anyone.
It's obvious that the person who made woohyeol feel love for the first time was inhae, what is the need to make her actually haesun? it’s pointless, their genuine love was enough, there was no necessity of this #Heartbeat #HeartbeatEp16 pic.twitter.com/l3iqonNkdt

In Hae spells death
We wonder if the ending would have been even more monumental had In Hae become instrumental in Woo Hyeol's death. She is his one true love and she is his salvation - an ending we would have loved to watch.
Some background
Throughout the series, the writers very superficially show Woo Hyeol's background. A lot of questions are unanswered there. The ending could have a montage of his origin which could have a hidden trick to make him human again. That way season 2 becomes even more interesting. Obsessing Over Taecyeon In Heartbeat? An alternative cure
Just to keep things interesting the writers could have hinted at an alternative cure to be human which Woo Hyeol would dismiss. Since they want us to keep guessing if there will be a second season, this could have been a great premise to work on.
