Kapil Sharma- Sunil Grover Fight, Akshay Kumar- Mallika Dua Spat and Other TV Controversies from 2017

As much as we love all the glamour and glitz attached to the industry we also enjoy seeing the pitfalls especially the ones that give us all the gossip! Yes, some gossip gets repetitive and uninteresting over time but we all love it when it is taking place. Controversies also show us the inner side of this appealing industry. It exposes secrets, bad behaviors, mean things that have been said and more of such things. As much as stars try hard to stay away from controversies sometimes when the issue escalates, they cannot help but get involved.

In 2017 too, we witnessed some controversies. Let us take at some of those:

1. Kapil Sharma- Sunil Grover fight: Kapil Sharma was everyone’s favourite until we got to see a side of him, which was never thought of. His drunken fight in the plane with much-loved co-star Sunil Grover gave some ugly details on the behind-the-scenes of the very popular The Kapil Sharma Show. Although Kapil even apologized to Sunil publicly, Sunil had already decided to quit the show. Kapil’s misbehavior with other crew members all came into the limelight. Several of them decided to quit the song. There were more reports of his drinking, canceling shows at the last moment and fights with other crew members as well. Eventually, the show was wrapped up.

2. Parth Samathan Molestation Case: Youth sensation actor Parth Samathan can well be called controversy’s favourite child. Already involved in multiple controversies before, last year, a 20-year model, Sushmita Chakroborthy, lodged a molestation case against the actor. Parth misbehaved with her and even leaked her intimate pictures online. In fact, the actor was involved in creating a WhatsApp group which gave out details about young girls! Parth had molested the accused when she was 16 years old!

3. Mandana Karimi’s domestic violence case: Ex-big boss contestant got married to businessman boyfriend Gaurav Gupta at the start of last year but definitely did not have a good year. Within 6 months she filed a domestic violence, which came as a shock to everyone. In the case she filed, she mentioned her mother-in-law throwing her out of the house. She mentioned that she was not allowed to work after her marriage or even meet her friends. Her husband also cut off from her. Mandana was dating Gaurav for years so something like this came as a huge shock to her fans and everyone alike.

4. Shilpa Shinde- Sanjay Kohli Sexual Harassment case: Shilpa Shinde became a household name playing the pivotal character of serial ‘Bhabhiji Gharpe Hai.’ This serial was extremely popular and loved by everyone. So when Shilpa Shinde filed a sexual harassment case against the producer Sanjay Kohli, it was a huge shock. The producer was not only talking cheaply but also touched her inappropriately. The co-producer also threatened her when she wanted to quit the show.

5. Pehredaar Piya Ki Show Ban: Sony TV’s idea of a new show failed miserably through the plot of the show Pehredaar Piya Ki. It showed a 10-year old boy getting married to an 18-year old girl but the way it was shown was completely unacceptable and unsuitable for the audiences. Along with the negative feedback, there were petitions asking for the show to be banned. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting itself asked the show to be stopped. And overnight, the ridiculous show was taken off.

6. Piyush Sahdev’s Arrest: Beyadh serial’s actor Piyush Sahdev was earlier in the news for his divorce. And after that, he was arrested on rape charges. A model filed who he was apparently dating accused him of rape. The two had vacationed abroad and after they came back, the actor stopped meeting her.

7. Akshay Kumar’s Comment on Mallika Dua: Supposed to be a laughter platform to renew ‘The Great Indian Laughter Show’ became a controversial one when judge Akshay Kumar made a remark on colleague Mallika Dua. It offended Mallika and her father, veteran journalist, Vinod Dua. He posted on Facebook about it and soon social media had a lot of things to say against Akshay Kumar. Indeed his comment was a very sexist one and crossed the line of a ‘joke.’ Twinkle Khanna, who too is very popular on her social media, supported Akshay Kumar and she too faced the backlash. So, the entire matter turned into an even bigger controversy.

These are some of the controversies which we saw reeking up in the news in this year. Some went on for months, some were extremely blown out of proportion. But all of these incidences once again gave a peek into the bad side of the big glam world.
