Thanks to the critical acclaim received by Logan and the Deadpool series, the X-Men franchise has its share of strong admirers. However, at the same time, the fan-base of the X-Men canon seems dwindling thanks to the inconsistent quality of the movies. While X-Men, X2, First Class and Days of Future Past are entertaining, the same cannot be said of the rest of the movies. X-Men: Apocalypse, the last movie in the X-Men canon, left the fans with a bitter aftertaste.
20th Century Fox, who makes the X-Men series, is pinning all their hopes on the upcoming movie, Dark Phoenix, that continued the First Class saga. Directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix allows the franchise to go cosmic, with the acclaimed actress Jessica Chastain roped in as the antagonist. Unlike other superhero movies in production, Dark Phoenix' shoot is going in complete silence. However, with the news that the movie is going into reshoots and the release date is postponed from November this year to February 2019, it doesn't bode well with the fans.
Apparently, all is not great with Dark Phoenix, as per an anonymous Marvel fan and Reddit user. This person claims that he/she has been a part of the test screening of Dark Phoenix and was left utterly disappointed by what was shown. Now, we don't know whether this person can be trusted, but other users have verified his account. So considering that we believe this person, let's look at what's the biggest takeaways of the revelations. NEEDLESS TO SAY, BIG SPOILERS AHEAD!
So as per the user's thread, the plot of Dark Phoenix is similar to that of The Last Stand (which is not great news). The movie borrows the thread of Professor X (James McAvoy) bringing a young Jean Grey into his mansion after her powers go berserk. The X-Men are now like the Avengers and due to some incident, they land on an alien planet. In the meantime, Jean grey finds out her father is alive and Xavier has been lying to him about his death. This revelation makes her go berserk and she releases her Phoenix force, accidentally killing Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence). Meanwhile, Magneto (Michael Fassbender) again goes rogue, and this time, he is joined by Beast (Nicholas Hoult) who wants to avenge Mystique's death. And yeah, the climax is one big CGI battle.
Here's a screenshot of the revelations -
We don't know how true these claims are, but if they are the truth, then Dark Phoenix feels very underwhelming, a sentiment shared by many X-Men fans. With no Wolverine to save the movie at the last moment, we really hope that the reshoots clear up whatever mess is already made by the movie.
