Woody Allen Blames Past Scandal for Not Being Made The Poster Boy of #MeToo Movement
In 1992, Woody Allen was accused of sexually assaulting his 7-year-old adopted daughter when he was married to actress Mia Farrow.
The controversial film-maker Woody Allen is known for two things - for making one of the best comedies ever in Annie Hall, and for his alleged sexual assault on his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. In 1992, Woody Allen was accused of sexually assaulting his 7-year-old adopted daughter when he was married to actress Mia Farrow. After being investigated two times, Allen has been cleared of all charges. But the aspersions and media scrutiny continue to haunt his image, further complicated by the victim's interview where she continued to blame Allen for her trauma. With the #TimesUp and #MeToo campaign, held to empower women to speak up against the assault, the director got more flak.
Now in an interview to Argentina's Canal 13 television network, Woody Allen claimed that he could have been the poster boy of the campaign if it was not for the scandal! He further stated that he was unfairly being bracketed along with serial offenders for a single crime that has not been proved against him.
Allen said, "It is a good thing they are exposing them. People who have been accused by 20 women, 50 women, 100 women of abuse and abuse and abuse, and I -- who was only accused by one woman in a child custody case, which was looked at and proven to be untrue -- I get lumped in with these people."
"This is just so crazy. This is something that has been thoroughly looked at 25 years ago by all the authorities, and everybody came to the conclusion that it was untrue. And that was the end, and I've gone on with my life. And now, for it to come back now, it's a terrible thing to accuse a person of. I'm a man with a family and my own children. So, of course, it's upsetting," Allen concluded.
