An official announcement has been made by Warner Bros. about the postponement in the release date of Wonder Woman 1984. Ass per their official statement, the Patty Jenkins' film has been delayed by seven months from its initial November 1, 2019 release date and will be out on June 5, 2020. The first Wonder Woman film became America's first female-led movie to have crossed tremendous success box office wise as well as popularity.

In their statement, Warner Bros explained how as a means to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, they have strategised to postpone the release date. Their statement reads, "We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did. This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.” On the same, even Gal Gadot took to her Twitter account to share the news of WW 1984's new release date, "Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home. June 5, 2020. Be there or be square!!!"

In 2017, when Wonder Woman's standalone film released, it broke all sorts of records in the Hollywood front. Raking in a whopping $1.3.2 million domestic debut to crossing a worldwide gross total of $821.8 million lifetime collection, Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins clearly made DC Comics' other superhero flicks duds. Perhaps cashing in on the success of the first part, they want to ensure that the sequel gets just as much fanfare and love.

The November month in 2019 is filled with competitive sequels and standalone that would probably jeopardise the clear standing of Wonder Woman 1984. Joaquin Phoenix's Joker will be out somewhere in October 2019. Whereas films like Kingsman 3 (Nov 8), Sonic the Hedgehog (Nov. 8), Terminator 6 (Nov. 15) and Frozen 2 (Nov. 27) have November releases. perhaps that's what has caused Warner Bros to take such a step and change the release date. With the new date, WW 1984 will now compete with Godzilla vs Kong, Maleficent 2 and Red Notice (starring Gadot with Dwayne Johnson) and Top Gun: Maverick.
