The movie Wonder Woman was the sole shining light for the DC Cinematic Universe, with the film getting acclaim as well as box office success. Not just that, Wonder Woman also showed the studios that there is a huge market for female superheroes, all you need is the perfect casting and good script. While the rest of the movies in the DCEU struggled to get praise, Wonder Woman is what stoking the fires for the franchise. So it is no surprise that the studios have greenlighted the sequel with director Patty Jenkins and lead star Gal Gadot returning.
But it seems that they are not the only ones returning. In a surprising announcement, Patty Jenkins shared the first official glimpse from the movie, and it features none other than Steve Trevor! Yes, the heroic character played by Chris Pine is making a return for the sequel, but we are still scratching our heads to find out how it happened!

If you have seen the first film, you know that Steve Trevor, the American WWI soldier and the romantic interest of Wonder Woman, sacrificed his life a la Captain America by carrying a bomb-laden plane away from Earth and getting killed in the explosion. His death made Wonder Woman go on a self-exile, and she only returns to superhero duties during the events of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.
What's more intriguing is that the sequel, Wonder Woman 1984 is set in, duh, 1984, and going by the people around Trevor in the above still, the fashion is relevant to that era. So if Wonder Woman did meet a mysterious alive Trevor in that era, then what's with the exile? Your guess is as good as ours!
Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled to release on November 1, 2019. Kristen Wiig will play the main antagonist, Cheetah, while Narcos' Pedro Pascal has been roped in for an undivulged role.
