As Spider-Man is ready to battle Thanos in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, Sony Pictures is going ahead in full steam with its Spidey spin-off, Venom. If you know the Spider-Man lore, you would know that Venom is considered as one of Spider-Man's greatest nemeses. Venom was a moniker taken by quite a few characters, with Eddie Brock being the most popular one. Earlier the character had appeared Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, where it was played by That '70s Show fame Topher Grace. Now Venom will have his own movie, and he will be played by the Oscar-nominated Tom Hardy. Only this time, Venom won't be a villain but more of an anti-hero.

The first teaser that came out a couple of months back didn't give us a proper glimpse of Hardy as Venom. Instead it was more in focus of establish the feel of the movie - which is horror! However, the trailer that came out some time back not only shows the origins of Eddie Brock as Venom, but it also establishes his superpowers and his crazy dual personality. The final scene also shows his full reveal as Venom, though I have to say the effects aren't that good.

So the trailer shows off Eddie as a journalist who is researching on a dubious scientist/industrialist played by Riz Ahmed. Apparently the antagonist is doing human experiments with a black alien symbiote that does crazy things to people it possesses. Brock gets possesed too, but it makes him more of a super-anti hero who takes on bad guys, even when he doesn't want to.

The trailer continues to have that horror feel with Tom Hardy not doing a bad job as the guy who has no clue what is happening with him. Check out the trailer here -

Michelle Williams plays Ann Weying, Eddie's girlfriend, who works in the villain's company. Is it me or did that line just remind me of Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man (Gwen Stacy works for Osborn Industries where Peter Parker gets his powers)? Though it is a Spidey spin-off, it is not yet confirmed that the webcrawler will make an appearance in the movie.

Venom is directed by Ruben Fleischer and is scheduled to release worldwide on October 5, 2018.
