Is there a way to get inside the mind of comedian-turned-avant-garde film-maker Jordan Peele? His debut movie, Get Out, was a different kind of psychological horror that also worked as a social commentary on racial tensions. Get Out was highly acclaimed by both critics and fans and even got nominated for four awards at the Oscars, including Best Picture, and won for Best Original Screenplay. Now his sophomore film, Us, is an even more bizarre movie that ramps up the horrors and the craziness, without indulging in any paranormal activity. It may not be as cohesive as Get Out, but Us is a marvel on its own. Us Movie Review: Lupita Nyong’o’s Stupendous Performance Backs Jordan Peele’s Crazy Vision in This Horror Thriller.

The movie stars Lupita Nyong'o, Winston Duke, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Evan Alex, Elisabeth Moss, and Tim Heidecker. Us is about Adelaide (Lupita) who has a terrifying experience in her childhood when she comes across her own doppelganger at a funhouse in her hometown. Years later, she and her family, including her husband Gabe, daughter Zora and son Jason, are hounded by their own murderous doppelgangers when they return to her hometown. And they are not the only ones facing this problem.

Us moves into truly weird territory after the first attack of the doppelgangers. The third act, especially, is zany when the whole existence of the doppelgangers and the twist about Adelaide and her doppelganger, Red is revealed. And the movie leaves us asking so many questions that we really need a second viewing to find out the answers. Like the seven below:

Does 'Adelaide' Know That She was the Doppelganger?

It is towards the end that we see Adelaide remembering that she was, in fact, her own doppelganger Red who had switched places in their childhood, and she was leading Adelaide's life. And at the same time, the real Adelaide was stuck in the hellish existence below, before she riles up the rest of the clones and leads a revolution above. But the question we have is does Red knew all the time that she was a doppelganger, or did she have an awakening so late?

Who Made The Tethered?

Adelaide tells Red that it was the humans who made the clones called here as 'Tethered'. But she says the experiment failed and the government abandoned them in the subways below. What exactly was the experiment and how did it fail? Also, why didn't the government bother to check what happened with the 'experiments'?

How Do The Tethered Survive in the Underground Without Proper Essentials?

The 'Tethered' were seen surviving in the abandoned subways for generations. While zombified in their actions, and basically lacking a soul, it is quite surprising that they have managed to survive so long without proper facilities. So who is providing them with the food essentials and even the change in clothes? You can't really make anything down there with any sunlight seeping in!

Why Doesn't the Real Adelaide Manage to Get Her Way Out of the Tunnel Earlier?

The clones are supposed to mimic their surface-dwelling counterparts. However, after little Red kidnaps little Adelaide and chains her up below before taking her life above, we wonder why Adelaide starts mimicking her actions below. Also since she still has the ability to think, why doesn't she chose to make an escape earlier?

Why Didn't The Wilsons' Doppelgangers Kill Them Immediately?

The Wilsons' doppelgangers take their own sweet time to kill their surface counterparts. However, their family friends, The Tylers are immediately killed by their doppelgangers when the latter encroach inside the mansion. So why did the Wilsons get that levy?

When Do The Doppelgangers Draw a Line About Mimicking Their Real-life Counterparts?

On quite a few occasions, we see the doppelgangers mimic what their real selves are doing on the surface above. This is exactly how the young Jason manages to kill his doppelganger by making him walk backwards into a flaming car. But on other times, these doppelgangers act on their own bizarre free will. So what exactly determines their selective actions?

What's the Purpose of the Whole Clone Holding Hands Chain?

At the start of the film, a television show tells us about the Hands Across America event that happened in 1986 where 6.5 million Americans formed a human chain for a charity benefit. Later the clones are also seen making a human chain that goes across the country, the reason for which is not made very clear.
