The Secret Life of Pets was a dull dud. Thankfully, The Secret Life of Pets 2 is a little bit funny. The makers of the film did a few alterations to the lives of the pets, including adding new star cast to make it more entertaining. Did it impress us? Were they able to tickle our funny bones? Well, read on to find out the review of The Secret Life of Pets 2!

The story starts with a classic 101 Dalmatian style where a girl with two dogs meets a boy who faces an accident. Cupid strikes, they get married and have a baby, much like Lady and the Tramp. Wow, the two plots literally collided so smoothly in the first ten minutes of the film! Anyway, things get a little tumultuous for all the pets after they all get mired in their own issues. Sure, their parallel stories come together as the film explores how they get each other's back and promote togetherness. Something we learn in The Meik Wiking's The Little Book of Lykke. What happens in the end? Is it happily ever after? I'm not going to ruin it for you. I am going to let you know whether it is worth your penny or not.

So the sequel has better laughs than the first part. But that's about it. Perhaps the humour is something that could tickle an adolescent brain but not make the adults laugh out loud. The makers did a good thing by replacing Louis CK with Patton Oswalt. However, they could have done wonders if they had a better script at hand and better character description. Brian Lynch has basically just taken bits and pieces from Aesop's Fables to come up with this script. The only extra addition is the sass and pizzazz of the characters. Nothing else. Even in terms of direction, Chris Renaud's idea of juggling through the parallel stories is rather clumsy.

In terms of good voiceovers, Patton Oswalt as Max is much better than Louis CK. He turns the anxious little pupper into such a delight that you pity the dog. Meanwhile, the brazen bunny Captain Snowball, voiced by Kevin Hart is full of life and action. He kind of reminds me of John Travolta's Bolt. Actually, he is the bunny version of it. Nevertheless, Hart puts some soul into this outgoing and bold bunny to make him a memorable character. Harrison Ford as Rooster is also amazing. Well, he has an engaging voice that we've been too familiar with so it is not surprising to see him be his awesome self in the film. His character is as nonchalant as his own personality. Tiffany Haddish too is super sassy and ballsy as she decides to rescue a tiger cub from an evil circus master. Together Haddish as Daisy and Captain Snowball bring down the circus clowns... Sorry... Wolves with some help from the rest of the crew.

Yays

- Fun cast

- Funny gags

- The one scene with Max at the vet is too good!

Nays

- Boring storyline

- Clumsy overlap of parallel stories

- Bad writing

- Dull overall humour

- Could've been better but this one's forgettable

Final Word

To be quite honest, it is a waste of time and money. I'd rather sit at home and go through all the animated movies from which they stole some essence. However, if you're a fan of The Secret Life of Pets, then perhaps my review wouldn't matter to you. Who am I to tell you that you should chuck this film?
